Rita Ward

Rita Ward is the Chief Attorney of the Greater Jefferson County Education Advocacy Program at the Institute for Compassion in Justice. In this role she assists children with any legal issue they may face in a variety of forums and primarily represents children with education related issues in the area school districts, but also assists with Social Security claims, and accessing mental health treatment. She has also developed training materials for parents on educational rights and provided training to parent groups. Ms. Ward has also served as an attorney at the Legal Aid Society, a staff attorney at the PROTECTION AND ADVOCACY DIVISION KY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC ADVOCACY, and an Assistant Public Advocate at the LOUISVILLE METRO PUBLIC DEFENDERS. Prior to her legal career, Ms. Ward served as a high school social studies teacher.
