Richard Cozzola is a supervising attorney specializing in legal issues involving children and adolescents at LAF (formerly Legal Assistance Foundation) in Chicago, Illinois, the largest provider of legal services to the poor in Chicago. He has represented adolescents, children, and parents in a variety of areas of law for over thirty years including: juvenile justice, special education, school discipline, and child protection. He has supervised LAF's work on Juvenile Expungements for nine years. He has presented at conferences for the National Association of Counsel for Children, the American Bar Association Center on Children and the Law, and the Rocky Mountain Child Advocacy Program. His appellate litigation includes In re Brown, concerning juvenile confessions and In re D.T., in the Illinois Supreme Court concerning termination of parental rights. In federal court, he has advocated for students on issues concerning special education and school discipline. He has written on advocacy for parents and children in several ABA Publications including the ABA's Advocating for Nonresident Fathers in Child Welfare Court Cases and the ABA Children's Rights Newsletter. He received his law and undergraduate degrees from Loyola University Chicago.
