Kathrina S. Peterson

Kathrina S. Peterson, J.D., LL.M., currently serves as Acting Deputy Director over the State Compensation and Assistance Division, where she oversees the Office for Victims of Crime's (OVC) state formula funding programs. Kathrina continues to advise the OVC Director on legislative, regulatory, policy, and legal matters as Attorney Advisor. In 2016, Kathrina received the Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General's Employee of the Year award. Kathrina also worked in the Office on Violence Against Women, where she managed state formula grant programs and participated in the Department's Prisoner Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Working Group to help develop the PREA regulations. Kathrina practiced as a family law attorney specializing in domestic violence cases, where she litigated contested cases in state and federal courts. She clerked for the Honorable Judith Bartnoff of the Superior Court for the District of Columbia, and before that was a Women's Law and Public Policy Teaching Fellow in Georgetown University Law Center's Domestic Violence Clinic. Kathrina formerly volunteered as a rape crisis sexual assault advocate in Boulder, Colorado; a domestic violence advocate in Wooster, Ohio; and a victim/witness advocate with the Boulder County District Attorney's Office. Kathrina holds an LL.M. in Advocacy from Georgetown, a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law, and a B.A. magna cum laude from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
