Janet Chung

Janet Chung is Advocacy Director at Columbia Legal Services (CLS), where she oversees and coordinates litigation, policy advocacy, and communications across all of CLS's five offices in Washington State. Prior to joining CLS Janet was Legal and Legislative Counsel at Legal Voice for 10 years, where she worked to expand economic justice for women and to combat gender discrimination in the workplace and in schools. Janet's legislative successes include crafting landmark legislation to expand reproductive health equity and protections for pregnant workers and advocating for paid sick and safe leave and paid family and medical leave. She also has litigated cases to address gender stereotyping of workers with family caregiving responsibilities, health care refusals, and adverse treatment of domestic violence and sexual assault victims in the workplace and on campuses. Janet has also practiced employment law and business litigation in private firms in Washington, D.C. and Seattle and served as a law clerk to a federal judge in Houston, TX. She has also taught legal writing, research, and advocacy at Seattle University School of Law and served as a fellow at the National Partnership for Women and Families, where she worked on litigation and policy development involving family leave laws and civil rights. Janet is a summa cum laude graduate of Yale University and received her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law.
